The current project builds on the existing FRA database to provide updated and new information on standards of conditions of detention in EU Member States, which can assist judges dealing with European Arrest Warrant (EAW) requests in their assessment of whether detention conditions comply with the prohibition of inhuman or degrading treatment. FRA will collect data through desk research and will closely cooperate with relevant monitoring bodies.

With European populations rapidly ageing, this project focuses on how older persons can fully participate in an inclusive and digitally just society for all. The research will take into account key EU policies, including the Pillar of Social Rights and the European Digital Agenda, examining how older people can enjoy their right to access public services which have undergone or are undergoing digitalisation.

Children who are deprived of parental care and who are third-country nationals are in need of special protection, and are entitled to be assigned a person who assists them throughout all proceedings. This project continues FRA's work on guardianship for unaccompanied children by looking at guardianship and legal representation systems in all 27 EU Member States, plus North Macedonia and Serbia. It also includes the development of a training manual for trainers of guardians.

The Roma Survey 2020-2021 will collect comparable data in eight selected Member States (Croatia, Czechia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Spain) and two accession countries (North Macedonia and Serbia). Roma will be asked a wide range of questions about their everyday life, including their socio-economic situation and their experiences of discrimination, harassment and violence – including any racially-motivated incidents.
