FRA learnt that several border monitoring visits took place in 2023 but understands that due to funding issues, the analysis of these visits is pending.
FRA guidance assists Member States set up national independent mechanisms to monitor fundamental rights compliance. It notes the importance of independence, synergies with other monitoring mechanisms and sustainable funding, as the basis for effective border monitoring mechanisms.
