Warsaw Human Rights Seminar on the ‘safe third country’ concept

FRA contributed to discussions on the ‘safe third country’ concept under the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum and its connections with the planned return hubs at the 16th Warsaw Human Rights Seminar. The event, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, took place on 17 November in Warsaw.

This year’s the focus was on the intersection of human rights protection, and the legal and political contexts of migration and asylum.

The event examined balancing the essential functions of the State – including maintaining law and order and safeguarding national security – with protecting the rights of people on the move.

Over 100 participants attended. They included staff of various Polish ministries and authorities, the Deputy Ombudsman of Poland, as well as diplomats, representatives of the European Commission and EU agencies, various international organisations, lawyers, NGOs and leading academics.

FRA’s presentation was part of its broader work to support the rights-complaint implementation of the EU’s Migration and Asylum Pact.
